step 3 Practice with U-Cali kit
Set your VOICE for the workout 1. Start using a SIGH, this time with sound, directly into the mouthpiece maintaining a steady airflow on a comfortable pitch. Gradually allow your voice to be more full but keep the airflow sensation. 2. Use the same sound on pitch glides. If you feel something changes during the pitch rising or lowering make sure the airflow is consistent and encourage your body and muscles to relax. If that doesn't work consider changing to a different diameter or instrument until you find your match.

step 2 Practice with U-Cali kit
Set your body for the workout : 1. Sit or stand in a comfortable position, make sure you are not leaning toward the mouthpiece, allow your hand to position it so your posture remains relaxed. 2. First exhale to the mouthpiece and feel the airflow with no sound. Almost like in a SIGH, make sure the airflow is smooth, directed to the mouth and not the nose and you feel comfortable. 3. Exercise a quick distancing of the mouthpiece each time you inhale. If you want, you can breathe from your nose and keep the mouthpiece attached, however this will not be possible with the mask later in our workout. That’s why we recommend that, whether you choose to breathe from your nose or mouth, start practicing the short distancing followed by attachment to the lips. If you can feel too much air is escaping to your nose consider jumping to step 5, and use the mask that will resist the nose airflow as well.

Choose your instrument and air resistance for the day: Choices of the instrument and resistance vary and depend on how your voice is doing today, your anatomical structure and your current training and technique. In Ucali we understand that we are all individuals, with individual needs, that change from day to day. That’s why we designed a kit that can be tailored to your needs at each specific moment. For this reason it is wise to work with a singing voice specialist or a voice care specialist while tayloring your ideal workout

step 6 Practice with U-Cali kit
Move to your regular speech and voice production : 1. Use the last exercise you did with the mask without it as well and move to the rest of your workout and song or speech. 2. At any given moment if the comfort achieved with the instruments is lost, put the mask back on to remind your body of those sensations and gradually move back. 3. You can also go back to step 3 with glides for a voice cooldown at the end of your rehearsal, workout or long day at work.

step 5 Practce with U-Cali kit
Add the Mask to advance your Workout -1. Once your voice feels a bit more flexible and comfortable connect the mask to the Ucali Mouthpiece. Exercise again the quick distancing of the mask each time you inhale, producing the SIGH sound to the mask in between. If you prefer a stronger resistance you can change the Ucali Mouthpiece OR use the Ucali Mask Plug notice that we don’t want to completely block the air therefore if some air escapes for the sides using the plug it’s natural. You can choose whether this benefits your voice better. You can also connect the Mask to the Ucali Adapter Mouthpiece and use it with straw in water, but it is not recommended as the bubbles effect is less likely with the mask. 2. Start using syllables that match your needs. For more gradual voice therapy we recommend starting with a sustained “V” consonant and moving to “Vu”. For tongue tension use plosive consonants such as “T”, we recommend the word “Tah” that encourages air release and tongue release but also reflects the air back so the voice is not breathy. As you progress try using nasal consonants such as in “Ma” or “Muh” this can be part of a tailored workout to improve and resist nasal airflow but also a gradual move to a regular exercise without the mask. Note that if you tend to snore or have difficulty in breathing from your nose a long sustained “M” using the mask and distancing for nose breathing in between might improve your general flow in the nose and even snoring at night.

step 4 Practice with U-Cali kit
Start your Vocal Workout: Use the scales and melodies you normally use in your workout with the Ucali Long Mouthpiece OR Ucali Adapter Mouthpiece with the straw and water. This can replace the regular introduction exercises in the lesson such as lip trills.
